Well shipmates, here is a picture of my recent ebay scoop.

A Wabeco 4000E metal working lathe with a full set of accessories, some never used.

The lathe is 18 months old. I am not an expert on these machines, which appear to be well regarded. Typical German quality and engineering.

The lathe should provide years of trusty service in the manufacture of small knurled knobs, sleeves and other components allied to woodworking projects and toolmaking.

I just need to find somewhere to set-up the lathe as it does not fit in my small workshop.

Bedroom?

It needs to keep it well away from any sawdust as this will draw all the lubrication away from the sliding surfaces and it will become difficult to use.

When picking a site for it, don't forget that even with a rear splash guard there is still lots of potential for a getting a stripe of oil-spray across the ceiling

Thanks for all the kind comments.

I am looking forward to getting to grips with the lathe and have purchased a few reference books to get started. A retired engineer friend of mine has also offered to provide some coaching and guidance which will be very helpful.

I was lucky to land on this lathe via ebay particularly as it was nearby in Thetford. The lathe cost just over £1,500 a good price when compared to the cost new, not to mention the value of all the accessories which must amount to more than £500.

I will keep you posted on my progress, even if it is a bit slow, it will be fun and rewarding.
