Hi, this is my first post where I have actually included pictures (if this works!)

It is a fireplace surround that I made for my Grandparents. Sorry there are no WIP pictures.

Cheers

Tom

looks great Tom, i really like the dentil moulding and double thickness top. I know its a real pain trying to get all of the dentils to line up with the mitres. getting a few ideas for ours now...

Hi Chris

Thanks for the good comments - i will post some other stuff on here when i get a chance.

Sorry for the belated reply.

Hope this makes sense

I fixed it to the wall as follows:

I mocked everything up and put it all in final position, marked the sides of the uprights/columns and then marked their inside edge by using a spacer block made from an offcut the same thickness as the oak i used for the columns.

I then screwed a baton to the wall which sat inside the surround, and then pre-drilled two 1/2 inch holes in the columns through which to screw through the columns into the batons. I plugged the holes with some 1/2 ince oak dowel i made on the router table.

Cheers

Tom
