Has anyone used their dovetail jig as a finger joint jig instead?
Was wondering if I changed the cutter from a dovetail to a straight cutter?

Regards

Depends on the model. There can be some difference in the comb geometry...
Best to refer to the manual.

I've never done this (although my comb-style jig supposedly can), but I have made a router-table jig with small success.

Steve Maskery put a how-to on YouTube a while back for doing it on a RT (use YT search - can't remember the URL, sorry), and it definitely works, but I found the devil was in the detail.

A good backing board is essential to minimise tearout, otherwise you'll get something that fits well and is mechanically strong but looks nasty (DAMHIKT!). Because of the way the cutter works, it's trickier than you might think. I suspect a spiral bit would help a lot, but haven't yet bought one (I should).

I have a few DT jigs and they all can do finger/box joints
the trend dc400 can but as standard the joints are assymetrical ( sp)
you have to move the work to make them symetrical which can be a pain
I have a 24inch jig (dj600 )also by trend and that has a special finger joint template which makes them quick and easy
