I intend to carry my Fine Woodworking subscription into a second year.
As far as I am aware there is no comparable UK journal - provided you close your eyes to the little American quirks and strange designs - my point is that with the present dollar position I'm charged less than twenty pounds for seven editions delivered to the door. That's pretty good you know!
Graphics and pictures are very superior - content not always so.
Fred.

But you still can't subscribe without a credit card!!!

Cheers Mike

Credit Cards are pretty mainstream these days so I don't blame them really, besides buying with credit cards gives you an extra buffer zone if the transaction goes wrong.

Failing that, get youself a pre-paid debit card, does virtually the same thing.

can you ?
That's new I shall hie me hither. Wouldnt have a credit card in the house, been there done that as a callow youth - tis a highway to hell.
Cheers Mike

Interestingly, about three weeks ago I asked them about subscribing to both the Fine Woodworking and the Fine Homebuilding websites, and, if both were taken at the same time would a discount be given.

They replied saying no, as it is their policy to only give discounts where the same title is taken as a paper publication, i.e. you would get a discount fron the Fine Woodworking web subscription if you were a subscriber to the magazine.

I don't see the point of paying for the paper AND electronic versions of the same articles!

Just had another look at FWW subscription page after Stewart said that you can pay by debit card. I got as far as the payment page of the process and when asked to pick which card I get a choice of Amex, VISA, Mastercard, or Discovery (which Ive never heard of I presume it's a US brand) As far as Im aware none of those are debit cards, and none of my cards carry their logos though I have to say that they used to but no longer it seems.

Am I missing something ?

cheers Mike

Mike, probably not much help but my bank supplied me with a debit card with a visa facility - which means I can use it as a credit card anywhere that accepts visa, but it acts like a standard debit card, maybe your bank can do something similar?

It is just the online service your trying to subscribe to or the printed one?

I've just paid by Visa online - no problems. I checked with Visa first and they are quite happy so long as you use the online form - but they do not like card numbers passing through ordinary emails.
FWW also suggested I could pay via Fax if I felt this to be a more secure method - I don't know what Visa think about that.
Keeping 'Tools and Shops' until Christmas day is my great treat!

My bank cards used to have a visa debit facility but as of the current card issue this has been removed in favour of Maestro which is debit only. Not very helpful really. I've looked at both the subscriptions and Im a little undecided as to which I would go for - while I would quite like to receive the paper mag you can access that content and all the archived stuff with the online sub whih seems better value to me for that reason and means that I dont have to explain away the increasing piles of magazines. The Fairy Princess almost fainted when she saw the cover price of FWW I bought this month though she does actually make positive comments about its content which cant be said of the other ones she looks at.
