Well I finally got the gates I have been working on fitted despite it pouring down with rain in the morning and a Hurricane in the afternoon! it seemed like someone up there didn't want me to fit them!

With or without the approval of someone up there, you've got a mighty fine looking set of gates installed. You should be very proud of yourself.

How did you do the curved sections for the top?

How are you fixed for a pair on my drive?

The gates look great :D

Can I be in that queue please? Up'n'over garage door though, 5m wide, how're you fixed?

Seriously though, damn fine looking gates. Done yerself proud!

Mark

Blimey mailee, not only have you done a great job of building the gates themselves, but I'm here to tell you folks that I'm not that far away from Grimsby & I would not like to think I was hanging gates that size with the wind like it was today.

Well done mate!!!!!!! =D> :D

cheers, sliver

Thanks guys for the nice comments. The gates are made of redwood. Fecn The top curved rail is made up by biscuiting two pieces together like this:

I made the tennons on it before curving the rail to make it easier for myself. And this is the result:

As for WIP pictures Dave, here is one of the dry fit:

Well Waka, believe it or not, the next project is another pair of gates! One single gate for myself and another for a customer. Sliver yes I was fitting them in 'that' gale! I can tell you it did get a bit hairy at times! If they were my own gates I would have given in and gone inside but they were for a customer and I had taken the old gates down by that time. I have to admit I thought I had done well in the end just to have kept my feet on the ground! Of all the days to hang a set of gates eh!

Like the gates mailee. Very nice indeed.

5m wide?!? :p Thats some garage you got there! Must make a great workshop, jammy so-an-so!

Mailee,

Nice gates. Does one gate have a rebate for the other to close onto or do they meet flush?

Andy

Real stunning work!

I am still on the box planter stage

Well done.

Well, I work for a company that 'specialises' in garden gates and I can honestly say that we don't make any gates that look quite as elegant as your right there!

Looks like you had some pretty good timber there too. Our red/whitewood's really cheap, low-grade stuff (well, that's "management" for you!) and we're forever struggling to work around the hundreds of deadknots and shakes all over.

Honestly, where there's heartwood there are no shakes; but where the timber's split down it's length there's no heart at all!!

Everyday's a new challenge I suppose...

I look forward to seeing those other gates when they're done.
