Hi, I have been looking at purchasing a Festool TKS 80 or CS70 and running it through the power take off on my CTL26, the problem is that i have found the max power load from the CTL 26 is 1800w and the saw is 2200w.

What problems is this likely to cause if any?

Thanks

Mark

Hi

Not sure it will cause any problems, I used to run a 2kw router on mine all the time, it never caused any problem.
I guess it might overheat and trip a fuse or something.
Also it is worth noting that festool make the OF 2200 router which is 2.2kw, do they say you can`t use this on the vacuum ?

I regularly use my Festool OF 2200(watts) on my CTL 26 with no issues whatsoever....I cant imagine it would be a problem using a TKS with one as Festool do tend to design their tools to all be as compatible as possible.

Being German, the extractor will have been designed to plug into a 16A German (Schuko) socket and the internal wiring will be sized accordingly. With a UK plug or adapter fitted, total current / power will be limited by the 13A plug top fuse, hence the reduction in spec. for the attached tools in the UK instructions.
On my gear, I tend to leave the original 16A Schuko plugs fitted rather than changing them and have a few adapters so that I can plug into UK 13A outlets or 16A industrial depending on what is available. Dust extractor, tracksaw and mitre saw are all like this so far.
In practice, a 13A fuse will carry 16A for a little while without blowing, so you will probably get away with it. Just keep an eye on the plug and any socket that you regularly plug it into in case repeated / heavy use cause overheating. If so, stop and sort out a proper 16A outlet and a blue CE plug to match.

Well if its the 13A plug that's the issue, I can say the extractor fuse has never gone no matter how hard I've used the saw. That said, I haven't used it on the end of a long extension and some voltage drop.

I have a CT26 mounted up high on my workshop wall with a home made boom arm and a 7mtr x 36mm hose. I also joined 2 x Plug It cables together to allow me to change tools without the need to access the socket outlet on the CT. It has been working like this since 2013 with no problems.

The OF2200 and the Kapex mitre saw do not have Plug It cables, so I just plug those into a standard 13amp socket and use the BlueTooth remote button to activate the extractor.

My first two Festool extractors both died with switching problems- sometimes in the switch itself and sometimes on the motherboard. I am now quite careful about putting heavy loads through it and switching on and off frequently. If I'm using a large router and it's going to be on for some time, I just plug it into the mains and accept the small extra effort in switching the extract on and off.

I always understood you could use any Festool tool with any Festool extractor.

I was once told if you are doing something where the extractor is turning on and off all the time (for example lots of cuts on the Kapex) it's best to turn the extractor to permanently on as the cycling on and off all the time isn't good for them.
