Contemplating getting a Domino. Curiosity is getting the better of me!

Just wonder whether anyone knows where is the best place / best price to pick one up?

Did a google search, but concious that google does not include every shop.

Thanks

It is definitely worth shopping around, I bought mine from D&M tools, at the time they had an offer on and I got the full kit with accessories and the additional systainer box with cutters and biscuits for £625, that was only a few months ago, now its £730.

I think the problem is that there are quite a few permutations. Some are just machine only, and other come with the dowels and cutters ...

I would recommend getting the box of assorted dominos and the set of different sized cutters you will be using them all. The other attachments maybe wait and see, I got them all but haven't used them much

What is it you plan to use it for? If it's principally carcass assembly, then the bare tool (comes with a 5mm cutter) and a bag of dominos will go a long way. The first thing I built with mine was a set of French doors, so I added a 10mm cutter and the bigger doms, and that combo was all I used for a long, long time.

If carcass assembly/sheet materials feature heavily, then I'd also suggest a Domi-plate as a better early investment over the Domino Systainer assortment. Just IHMO.

+1 on the dominos set.

I got the cross stops and the face frame bit because I could foresee using it for making up wide boards and doing a few face frames. I used nuts and bolts. There will be vouchers at Christmas for 50quid off, well there normally is.

Just took the plunge and purchased a new domino 500 off ebay for £360
Fingers crossed.
When most other dealers are selling for £550+ that sounds suspiciously cheap. Scam or stolen ?

Yes I agree. My thought was that it was possibly a manufacturers replacement unit. It says it is brand new. Paypal gives me buyer protection if there is a problem with the purchase.

Not if Festool find it's a stolen unit in three/six/nine months time when returned for warranty work. Then it would be confiscated and returned to the rightful owner.

Sadly eBay don't mention discovering an item as stolen as cause for generating a refund by their buyer protection scheme.

I'd check the serial number as soon as you get it. That is too cheap
Are you suggesting that I check the serial number with Festool or do they have a web site. I agree that a stolen unit is not what I had in mind!

Thanks

From seller phantuk ?
He's sold quite a few expensive tools, no negative feedback, can't see any obvious reason to distrust him.
Looks like you'll need to spend another 20 quid on one of these though: http://www.axminster.co.uk/festool-spare-plug-it-cable

Yeah. That's the one!

I forgot I needed to order the cable.

When the unit arrives I will attempt to register it with Festool to see what happens

Someone selling bare 'brand new' tools without boxes, accessories, instructions, warranty etc ???
What's the providence of the goods ?

I'm sure you can trust the seller to deliver, but are the goods legitimate?

It's not until something goes wrong the buyer might find the goods are confiscated by a service agent and they're left with nothing. Too late to put negative feedback three months later.

You could message him and ask him for the serial number of the OF1400 he's selling.
If he's legit he should be happy to give it to you.
