Festool Cutters and Dominos and Titebond?

I'm heading over to the new Nuneaton store on Tuesday to get myself a 110v box and a 110v cable for my domino. Whilst there I need to buy some actual dominos. I really don't want to splash out on the full set of cutters and bits right now so am planning on just buying a bag of the 5mmx30mm dominos and get the full box for my Birthday in March. My question is I plan to use the domino exclusivly for 18mm stuff for the next few projects and will a 5mmx30mm domino be ok for that use? I'd have thought it would?

My next question is I really want to get into this quick glue up with the domino stuff, I've read that Titebond has a dry time of 10-15mins, now does that mean once I've dominoed up and glued and clamped I can take it out of clamps after 15mins to half an hour rather than the full 24hours I let elapse with my current PVA or is this a bit over ambitious?

You only need 5X30 for 18mm 15 mins is a bit ambitious but i find when I've run out of clamps I can start removing and reusing them, I probably have 20-30 clamps.

I generally leave mine clamped for about an hour using titebond. It does say that you shouldn't exert to much pressure on the joint, for me that's normally about 4 hours.

Thanks for the info. What are the other pros to Titebond, is it as easy to clear off as PVA?

It is PVA (well nearly all of them are).

For inside work I've always used Original Titebond, had no complaints with it in the last 12 years or so. It does not leave a glue line and when wet just wipe off with a damp cloth, quite easy to sand or scrap off any residue when dry.
For outside work I use Titebond 3.

Apologies for jumping in but I'm also interested in trying Titebond's glue - which one of the three is best for edge-jointing boards for a table top?

Apart from the interior/exterior use, there doesn't appear to be much between them, according to Axminster. I'm looking for something that won't creep - I read somewhere that at least one of the Titebond glues doesn't creep... I normally cascamite but, I'm getting sick of all the mixing and wastage and would rather save that for laminating, where you really need the longer open time.

Do you need to buy a full cable I would just buy the 110v plug. Whats the US 'plug it' cable like that came with the Domino is it as thick as the UK 110v plug it' if so just get a 110v plug.

I have seen that Chippy, festool do a little kit thats about a tenner to convert the end. Not much in it really I don't think but I'll have a look on the day.

no thats not what I mean, all you need to do is cut off the US plug and fit a standard 110v plug like this one but check that the US cable you have is upto the amperage it should be.

I've done this on some of my 110v stuff that I bought back from canada and its worked fine for 12 years.

Funny enough the Festool stuff does come with quiet a posh 110v plug on it slightly better than the standard one in the picture above I posted :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Just back from the Nuneaton Store. Its about 20mins from me which is real bad news!

Got some dominos, the hand held thing for £31, the cable which was £18 not £10 as I thought but live an learn. I also got the 110v box to run it all off and get cheaper tools in future.

Read on here a while back that people weren't impressed with the shop. World of Festool is amazing, I didn't realize they did such a huge amount of stuff. The have pretty much every machine you could want to see laid out on the floor surface, I had a look at the big table saw for £800 the one DevonWoody has and think thats definatly one for me and had a play with my next purchase the Jet260 so it was a good visit and also had a look at all the shiny Lie Nielsen stuff and veritas.

All you had to buy was a £2 110 volt plug not the £18 plug it lead oh well I tried to advise you :roll:

I know but once I was in there I didn't want to go some place else or have to be wiring stuff up. I was hit by the green sales room!

Got out today and put it to use making a set of drawers that were already cut to size. It was rapid, couldn't have done with out the hand held trim stop thingy as it would be very hard to do with out it.

I wonder if anyone here took the plunge and bought one from Rutlands for £499 over xmas. Wish I could have bought some bits and pieces but work is very quiet at the moment.
