I just saw one (battery) on FB MP and noticed that it says on the box "not for use in the USA". Why would this be? I could understand their not being sold there, but used there? How could they stop it?

Maybe the charger 50hertz 220V on your side of the pond vs our 60hertz 110V power. If there isn't a charger with it then never mind.

I would imagine you're right about it being the charger, even though most devices these days seem to be switched mode, and work from 90v to 250v or something.
Maybe it's a very fast/high power charger?

It'll be CE but not UL approved, presumably the charger is the issue as it's battery (the leads and motors are different for corded tools) but could be something else.

Doesn't make much sense I agree, but it could be how the UL certification works at individual unit level. CBA to check if the part numbers are different here and in US but it is possible. But maybe its just Festool/Festool USA being protectionist. UK and Euro dealers are not permitted to sell to NA so it may just be underlining that commercial restriction.
