Up nice and early this morning to crack on with the built in wardrobes. I'd clued up the stile and rail doors yesterday, so todays plan was to sand and fit. Got the first one sanded, took it up to the bedroom for fitting and trimming as required, put it up to the frame and low and behold I'd made it 2" short on the width, not only was this one undersized but the other one was as well.

Well we all make mistakes so to save as much of the door as possible I sliced down through and saved the styles. Three hours later I'd made two new doors, this time the right size.

Now I thought it was time to sort out the tables one my JPT 310 that I mentioned in an earlier thread. This wasn't doom and gloom, within about 30 minutes and some very very minor adjustments I got it lined up perfectly. I think this was more by luck than judgement, at least something was going right.

Now it was time to prepare the wood for the remaining 2 wardrobe doors, low and behold the first piece of wood I put through still had the staple in the end. As we all know planer blades and staples don't go together, at this point it was time to come in and have a relaxing beer.

Now what will tomorrow bring?

Sounds like you've had quite a day!! :D

Glad to hear you got your planer tables sorted. If the nick in the knives really bothers you, you could always offset one of them slightly to one side, if you can't avoid using that area of the cutter block.

Now tomorrow start by sitting with a cup of tea and checking all your tape measures, you got one with two inches missing.

Olly

I'll stick my spare blades in tomorrow.

Admitting I'd made the mistake is one thing, showing pictures is just ridiculas, and as for that tape measure, thats already in the bin.

Well you can say one thing in your behalf. You are consistent.

Well I'm now going to be ridiculous

Swmbo wants another two lamps like I made earlier this year, one the same size and a taller one 36" high.

Here's a pic of the taller one being sized up this afternoon.

This one I goofed up on. I didn't notice till this morning when I removed the clamps and gave it a coat of oil, I could feel the blood drain from my brian when I noticed the goof.

So your not the only one.

LN,
No worries - Daddy Bear and Mummy Bear have theirs you just need to make another even smaller one..

Waka, it's worth at least a couple of beers!

LN is this an optical illusion? How or rather where does the flex run?

Rather than hijack Waka's thread I'll post picks in a new thread tomorrow. :)

Did you spot the goof?

I think the clue to that is in the picture above..

Very nice lamp mate LN. The fault is the grain direction?

It's a feature madam, and at no extra cost!!

Thanks LN, I did spot the goof but wasn't sure it was a goof, I'd probably have done the same ;)

I spotted it. And from the photo you can see exactly where the flex goes.

I quite like it, actually, and the grain going in opposite directions is nice, but I guess it is a problem if this is one of a pair.

'scuse me if it's a daft question, but what wood is that? It looks like american walnut to me, but not when varnished.

In any event I would be proud to have made that, so don't be too hard on yourself, eh?

How did you manage to mis measure, have you worked it out?

I often used to measure with a tape measure but holding it on the 100mm mark for more accuracy and then forgetting to deduct  . I assume you didn't do this if your an Imperial man.

Waka,

I do this for a living and I still have days exactly like you describe!

Miscalculating the length of door rails is a classic. It's so easy to deduct the length of the tenon instead of adding it to the gap between the stiles.

DAMHIK!

Dan

Waka,
How early was nice & early? If it was 5am that would mean the relaxing beer would have been about 10.30am.
That sounds like my kind of relaxing day :D
