Blister,
Is that Tom in the second photo holding the chisel so tight his knuckles are white
Looks an excellent club with plenty of facilities, is it in the local collage/school?

Yes and Yes

Fine looking club Allen .We dont have that over here we go to adifferent members shop last Saturday of month. Some of them have big shops with maybe two or three lathes, one is usually a small metal turning lathe.
Thoes that do it for a living are always there to show us starting a few tips and help us on our way. This Saturday we have a guest turner so maybe learn something new,who knows. REgards Boysie.

PS May give you a ring tomorrow .

look forward to your call

Indeed, After looking into clubs local to me, I found that Allen's was the nearest. Oh and what a club! I suspected that there wouldn't be enough lathes.... I could have setup 2 for myself! :D

Allen's friend Dennis was giving me stirling advice and guidance. Sadly the tools were not as sharp as they could have been. There are facilities to sharpen, but that's boring, right? ;) I will be buying my own set of tools to take along with me in future.

We were making a small box out of Italian Alder (blank free from the club). It went fairly well, considering. But let's just say it wouldn't have held water...

John.B was there making a lovely green sycamore bowl which is now drying out.

I'm not sure if it was my presence, but 4 people had failed turnings during the night! All eventually labbles 'Live Edge Bowls' :D

Good fun, addictive as hell.

Notice the YELLOW Lathe .... ;)

In the rear corner is a small forge, behind me a good size startrite, behind Tom there's a nice size metal lathe.
Next door are the welding, Mig, Tig, and brazing tools and computers, demonstration tables wood colouring, the list goes on.
It's a great club 8) 8) 8)
