They have these in my local B&Q for £97 (last few) at the moment (folkestone).

It depends what you want to use it for. I had bought mine to cut lots of angle iron and also as a transportable SCMS as my other one is bench mounted. I went through 2 of them earlier this year, they are okay for light use on metal but would not recommend for anything else. I ended up buying a Ryobi cut off saw which cuts through 4mm angle iron like a knife through butter, although it does shed a few sparks!!!

I'm only going to use it for wood really, just want to check that its a fair saw for the money. Axminster don't stock them and their least expencive saw if a few quid more than this one.

Wish I was closer to your store I'd grab one and save myself the postage but from Dartford it's a treak.

Thanks for the swift reply.

Vorumlac - I am in West End, but was originally from the Marsh ;-)

Bofh - probably worth calling your local B&Q as I believe that this was a standard store item so the Dartford (if there is one!!) or worst case Thurrock store probably has some left.

Ah, West End with all those beautiful old Victorian buildings - lovely :) Haven't been back to Folkestone in years, I bet it's changed quite a bit!

Yes and no! the West End has not changed much, still lots of Victorian buildings which are mainly flats, but the harbour area, Tontine street and the old High Street have indeed changed a lot!

The http://www.creativefoundation.org.uk/ have been acquiring property and redeveloping significantly. In fact I am hoping to move my workshop from the bland industrial estate I am on to Tontine street so will have a shop frontage. Just waiting for the refurbishment of the building to take place.

Sandgate is still lots of antiques shops and a few nice bars.

p.s the Leas water lift has closed as the council were too tight to pay for its continued running.

They've closed the water lift?? That was one of only something like 3 original water lifts still in operation! B@stards!! I used to love going on that as a lad, practical engineering, all the rivets and gushing water.
Getting a shop in Tontine Street would be terrific, I always liked that part of town (although the amusement arcades towards the bottom might have had something to do with it...).

Apologies to Bohf for hijacking!

I used to teach at the local comp in New Romney...loads of the kids used to come in each day using the RH&DLR (until they set fire to it once, if memory serves) and at that time (1982) we lived at Littlestone - Rob

very interesting Rob, I attended that school from 1981/2 to 86!!! it would have been my first/second year in the "little" school which is now a Sainsbury's and Southlands is now the Marsh Academy. Rob, what is your last name? I used to be in Neville Caine's form class when I went to the big school.

...in which case you can call me "Sir" (or whatever ) I was in the CDT dept under the then boss Ken Hickman...I remember Neville Caine very well. The school was split at that time on both sides of the main road and I taught in the workshops on the 'Sainsburys' site where the guy in charge of CDT in the lower school was Martin Burrows (sp?) A particular mate of mine at the time in the dept was Paul Read (big bloke with a beard, did the RNLI from Littlestone) who left teaching in the mid 80's and went to live in Newquay.
Interestingly, it would seem that our paths did in fact cross...PM sent anyway - Rob
