This was special.
A very good friend of mine was retiring from Dockland Light Railway where I used to work before retiring myself.
I was asked could I make something for him. "I would" I said and this was the result.
Plinth and back (tunnel) Japanese Oak. front interior hand chipped with a small gouge then ebonised. The rear again hand chipped. The train is of Maple, the windows and lettering was pyrographed and grooved the front ironwork, handles wipers & coupling made from a wire coat hanger. The lot finished with several coats od oil then buffed.
From that I got another order, same thing for the Chief Engineer when he retired later that year,
Sorry about the pic, not that good.

Love it! How did you make the plinth? One piece or built up? Did you have problems with tearout at all?
Cheers
Philly :D

Hello Philly,
The Plinth was made from one piece, shaped on my router table. Being Japanese Oak, I had no tearout at all, mind you the router bits need to be very sharp. I have a big Triton, which I believe is the best table router on the market. Very powerful, simple to adjust has micro adjustment change bits from the top, soft start, start switch can be left switched on so can be started via the no volt starter.
PS (I have no connection with Triton)
