EU IOSS scheme - anyone here using / planning on using it?

At the moment, I'm not even VAT registered (I've never wanted to be, as the bulk of my end price is labour, and my customers private, so vat registration will just increase my end cost) but it looks like ill be forced to (i guess) in order to use the IOSS scheme, and maintain any chance of selling to the EU.

Is anyone here in the same boat, and what are your plans / knowledge on the scheme?

Implies that you can remain non-vat registered, but, at the same time, use some (currently non-existent, so far as i can tell) HMRC IOSS portal, but how you would account for rebate on materials for that, who knows.

The lack of preparation by the UK government is incredible.

I agree about avoiding VAT registration if possible, strikes me as a way for mr to get confused and accountants to make more money. Some benefits can be had (like when buying a van etc) but I am avoiding it myself.
Perhaps there will be another way to sell to Europe avoiding IOSS. Some kind of 3rd party broker or agency who can sort it out on an individual basis.
