god am in the money a marples 5.1/2 just sold for nearly a ton
so i got exact same plane and others all very rare marples planes i no that they are not that rare but how come when i sell my tools on ebay i get what i think is the right price ware does this guy get his stock from <barnes>
i buy tools from boot sale and auction houses take home give a little clean and service and sell on etray i am very honest with my tools just sold a boxed stanley no4 £21.00 in 1st class condition and i made a proffit from that god knows ware second hand tool prices are going

I can second that. Barnes gets crazy prices for his goods. With tall this planes he repairs and makes shine.
Looking at his location.. I guess he buy from the stanley auction and the sells on eBay. He's been doing it's a long time! I've brought the odd but from him.

I just had a #5 Acorn from him, just to keep on the van (no way I'm keeping decent, expensive stuff on there). It's OK for £7 and I collected it while I was passing so didn't have to pay any postage :)

You know what really annoys me, the boot sales I go to are absolute crap; all full of baby clothes and household junk, and one in particular is 90% dealers with large vans/small trucks.

Apparently, the reason is all the "good" stuff (if there is any) is bought up by traders, rather than by the end user.

Not if you get there early enough and get in the mix with them.

Adam.

I don't desire cheap tools enough to mix with rude people and sharp elbows.

I went early once. A little too confrontational to be enjoyable. It's like 5 year
old in a free lucky dip.

I've seen dealers go in the backs of people's cars and start rummaging
through boxes that the people hadn't even put out yet.

You can go to bootfairs early and avoid dealers because the "swarm of bees" tends to move with the new rows and arrivals.

I tend to walk the opposite way because most of the stalls have not actually put much out before the "pack" moves on.

I get most of my bargains that way.

But one thing's for sure...most of the good stuff is gone within 1 hour of opening so anyone going to a bootfair after that is going to find breast pumps, DVDs, rubbish batteries and other tat.

When I used to go as a seller a few years back I too became very angry with the antics of dealers and the rudeness and rummaging in the back of the car.

My solution was to pack the car up and then put a Clarice Cliff plate in a box right on the top. I would pull up...get out...lock the door and walk away in the opposite direction for about 20 minutes....

That way I could set up in peace and the frustration on their faces when they saw the gem in the back, was worth its weight in gold!!

Barnes has a huge track record, good clear pictures, informative descriptions and must be bookmarked by hundreds of US buyers eager to have whichever tool has been described in glowing terms as essential on any of the influential blogs and magazines.

I believe he is quite easily spotted at auctions by the industrial scale of his purchasing!
