Epoxy Glue--Metal to Plastic

I want to use epoxy glue to glue metal to plastic. The job is to glue a metal plate onto plastic so I can fit casters to a machine tool stand so that the stand can be moved around a workshop. Can you recommended an epoxy glue that can do that? A glue that would be capable of this task?

Are you saying the castors have a plastic plate that you want to glue to the metal frame?

My first reaction is to say i would think standard epoxy will do, just make sure the plastic is roughed up a bit. You can get small 2 part glues like aryldite which will probably be fine.

Personally id find a way to mechanically fix it. Secondly, if the castor body is plastic, it probably won't be strong enough to take a machine, plus wood weight and any pressure from pushing etc.
A pic or 2 to understand better would help

I'd use MMA rather than epoxy but that's because I have some spare and an epoxy should work too. It will depend what plastic though, some will need primers with epoxy at least.

It won`t want to stick to the plastic if its smooth and or flexible.
I would make plywood board with wheels on and put the machine on that.

If there’s any weight involved find a way to make it a mechanical fixing

If epoxying surface area is your friend, and a good key from 60 grit.

Degrease thoroughly with solvent - acetone or ipa

Make sure it’s warm whilst it cures, an unheated garage won’t be warm enough at the moment for proper curing and bond strength

Use a decent one - west systems gflex is decent stuff

is there anyway you could swap to metal framed castors and bolt it together? any slight bumps in the floor and that will pop apart!

gflex is incredible stuff.

I've never had much success gluing plastic to anything with epoxy. The bond never seems to last.

I would look for a mechanical fixing myself as said above.

What plastic? Polypropylene will not glue neither will high density polyethylene. I use high density polyethylene to mix epoxy resin on . Nothing sticks to it.
If the plastic is p.v.c. it will not have any integral strength and break. A mechanical fixing of some kind would, I think, be best.

I've used JP Weld Plastic Bonder recently this some success but only for small parts (plastic - metal). I first tried JP Weld Plasticweld but it was pretty useless and took an age to cure. The Bonder is good but expensive. If at all possible I would try and find a mechanical solution to your problem.

If you check out e magnets, or any supplier of niobium magnets they do a wide range of specialist glues for sticking them to just about any material. So if you have to glue then this might be a good source, but I would agree that some kind of mechanical fixing is probably better.

Most (solid) things will glue if you throw money and specialised chemicals at them.

Bonding Low & High Density Polyethylene | HDPE & LDPE | Permabond

(Those structural acrylics mentioned will almost certainly be types of MMA glue)
