Very good again.

OK, to nit pick  ... er.... proof read

P.1 line 1 "which" should be "with"?
P.4 para 1 line 5. Needs an "a" in front of "big"
P.4 para 3 line 1. "vary" should be "varies"?
P.5 para 3 line 2. "left set to the to the" - too many "to the"s
P.5 para 3 line 7. "iron machines are" - the "are" should be an "as"
P.10 para 2 line 2 "frequency range in within" - remove the "in".

This is good stuff - you are now moving out of my comfort zone, so I'm learning lots :D

To proof read your proof read.
P1 line 1 is missing an "is" after "which" and shouldn't be "with" .
line 3 reads "...... such machinery is that almost without exception(it)is ruggedly design(ed) and..." ( bold bits missing.)
P.4 para 1 line 5. Reads OK, no "a" needed.
P4 Line 8 Should converter be convert?

Very interesting Bob. Thanks

Thanks to both Studders and Boz for pointing out my mistakes.

I've now corrected these and uploaded a new version here

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bob.minchi ... aft0.2.pdf

I'll now crawl back under my stone and endeavour to get better at proof reading.

Bob

Sorry Bob, didn't mean to criticise or nowt. If I'd written 11 plus pages there'd be an awful lot more mistakes than yours had believe me.

Hi Studders,

No problem and absolutely no offence taken.

I am posting drafts for the very reason of getting comments on style and content so that when I do go to first issue the document should have a reasonable length of life before needing edits.

Please keep the criticisms coming as well as suggestions for extra content or deeper explanations.

Bob

Woops. Sorry all. Well, it was early in the morning . But no criticism on style at all, it's very readable :).

Just a minor point.............

Public supply voltage in the EU was harmonised some years ago.

It is no longer 240 / 415.

The statutory supply voltage is now 230 / 400, +10%, / -6%.

The public infrastructure in the UK still supports the old supply voltage at 240 / 415 as it's within the current tolerances, but protective device calculations and statutory manufacturer's data will be based on the 'new' EU statutory voltage.

.

Thanks for that Argus, I was vaguely aware of the changes regarding 230-240 when reading discussions on various forums about folk getting very high mains voltages that still technically within tolerances even though bulbs were blowing prematurely

For some reason I had not thought this through to the implication on phase to phase voltages.

As most readers will be looking a rating plates on existing motors and the photos I have used are of motors that pre-date the harmonisation, I think I'll leave my text as it stands and make a mental note to write an annex on the subject.

Cheers

Bob
