Anyone any information in this machine. It is an Elu P/T 10"x6" I am thinking of buying. Anyone any info on this machine?

I have one and I am happy with it plus I have the manuel if you need a copy :) .
Is there any thing you need to know :)

Mine is in dewalt yellow, there is snipe with them as the thicknesser bed is short, well constructed and european made. No chinese screws to chew up

I belive they made a few different model numbers, you also can still get parts for them and download the manuals at dewalt uk site

Oh, there is quite a large footprint in thickness mode with the table swung over and the motor sticking out other side

Yes Colin it is the EP1161 and it is a gem. Now I have to find room for it in my workshop. I do have all the manual and exploded diagrams for it so no problem and even a spare set of blades. I am thinking of mounting it on castors so I can pull it out to use it as space is now at a premium. Thanks for the replies guys much appreciated. I will bear it in mind Colin if there is anything I need to know about it, thanks. :D

Do you have the dust extractor hood, if not there are about £35 and you can get them from Here
or Here but I think you will find it is cheaper.
I have not got one yet but when this job is finished I will  :)

Hi Colin, Yes I do it came with the machine luckily. Just ordered some industrial castors from Axminster too as I will need those for the bandsaw as well.

Calling Colin! Have you any idea how the dust extracotr hood fits on to the machine when it is in the planing mode? I have been through the instructions but it says nothing! I have found out how to attach it while it is in the thicknessing mode but can't seem to work it out when planing. :?

To be tell you the turth I dont know for sure but I think it bolts to the metal part that gos over the blades in thiclnessing mode and stays on there, *but I have been known to be wrong before

Refer to SWMBO

On one side of the hood is two round holes, these locate two chrome pins underneath the outfeed table then just wind the thicknesser table up so that just sits on it .

I find chip collection in this mode not very effective but have been told by a member to make a opened top box with outlet for hose and place it under the cutters supposed by 98% efficient have not got around to do it .

I have checked the fitting that you mention Sawdust producer and it looks like maybe the knobs are fitted the wrong way around on this machine as the chrome pin heads are inside the shroud and the knobs face down. It still looks a poor set up to me so I think I will try to make a shroud to fit my 4" hose that sits around the cutter head. Considering Elu's reputation this idea seems a bit naff to me. Still can't always get it right I suppose. Thanks for the info guys.

Folks,

Mine is the similar Elu 1151. I like the box idea for chip collection... I'll have to try that.

Another trick to try is to make a " ramp" covering the lower table (I'll try to get some photos when I get a chance). It's essentially some melamine coated MDF that extends the lower thicknessing table by about six inches or so, while only reducing your planing depth by about an inch.

This all but eliminates snipe. Obviously, the little thicknessing scale will now be off (not that it's particularly accurate, in any case).

And here's a hint I wish I'd thought about on the prototype: you need to have some way to clamp the front of the ramp to the table, itself. When your newly planed board has all its weight on the end of the ramp (surprise) the front lifts like a teeter-totter with only one person sitting on it. No injuries, aside from my pride.

Thanks, Jim

I have actually done that mod on mine as I used to use it on the cheapo Nu tool one I had. I made some small turnbuckles on the bottom to keep it in place.
