Never really understood this. Why do people say personal collection only and then only accept paypal? If I was being cynical I would start to suspect that maybe there was something wrong with it and they did not want people refusing to pay when they saw it.

Most eBay sellers have PayPal only as the default provided to them by eBay when they list the item. It's just too much trouble to go to the bother of adding other payment methods - I don't, for example, but if someone offered cash I'd be perfectly happy to accept it.

If you refuse to pay for an item you've won on eBay you are legally in breach of contract. For a few quid it's not worth worrying about. As a seller you simply report the buyer as a bad payer and get a full listing refund so you have no costs to bear. Pretty simple to me.

That might explain it. I have never sold via eBay, only bought but I never buy from anyone who insists on Paypal since I do not have (and do not intend getting) an account. If it's an expensive item I will travel to collect, for cheaper items I am prepared to take my chances based on feedback.

Hi Andrew
I don't understand what you have against PayPal. I will not buy anything that is not available with a PayPal payment. The item is payed for instantly and you will receive it that much quicker and it is automatically insured and all for no extra cost. I think it is by far the best way to buy on Ebay.

Best wishes

John

Just an fyi - you don't need a PayPal account to pay by Paypal, just a credit card and use it online as usual. Wife received payments that way frequently into her PayPal account, but the only problem is she can't give refunds directly as refunds only work on an account to account basis. Just thinking though - that could be a US restriction that won't work in the UK?

Basically John, I have come across too many people who have had problems using Paypal. Usually resulting in accounts being suspended. Sure, I know that they handle a lot of transactions but at the end of the day they are acting as a bank and holding money but are not registered as a bank and don't operate under banking codes of conduct nor are they under the control of the banking regulator.

The weight limit with parcelforce was 30 kg not 25kg(unless its changed)
I hate paypal i sold something to a guy in the US when paypal was only based in the US .The transaction was just over £1000. everything went fine. Then six months later the buyer broke the item and did a chargeback on my acount. So i was £1000 in the red with paypal. According to their rules at the time sellers were immune from a chargeback after 90 days. They tried to get the money from me and i wouldnt play ball.I didnt get the item back either.I stopped using my account and havent used them for 4 years.Every year or so i get a threatening letter from them which i dont bother to respond to(after initially making my views plain enough, regarding the 90 day period). They know they cant do anything but still annoy me occasionally.
They change their terms quite frequently so its good to read all the small print. They,ve been hammered in court in the US several times for operating under illegal practices.
