My brother as asked me to make him six egg cups
So what would be a suitable wood to use and what finish to apply if any. :?:
I know they will get a lot of use and probably end up being washed in soapy water.

As the wood won't be in direct ontact with food th wood cn be abything as long as it is not too soft and is stable. Beech, ash, yew, plane, etc are all acceptable IMHO. I would finish them by simply giving them a good soak in oil. If they are used by children they will nee scrubbing as the yolk is like superglue IME and doesn't just wipe off.

And here they are :D
Nothing eggciting in the shape. He wanted chunky, and simple, and after showing him the first one which was OKd i carried on with the other three
Yes he only wanted four
Made them from Laburnum,as i had some smaller off cuts and i think they came out alright. :D
Another satisfied customer :D

oh yeh I like those Paul. Very nice shape and a good match.

Very nice Paul !

That wood is beautiful. Did you have to put a food safe finish on them ?

Thanks for all the comments
These were only turned off quickish, and i wasn't paying that much attention to the shapes, just the size/depth of the bowl, and was surprised meself when i looked at all four together to see how close they were
