What about the number 22? I think wizer's 30 now... Could you him going eight-years on eBay without spending a penny?! :D

You never know, he might cough up. With a user id such as '666thebeast2009' I might just be a little concerned!
Whenever I've contacted the second highest bidder they've also refused. I've only done that on a couple of occassions but they've either had second thoughts or they assume something isn't quite right with the auction.

I've got a few eBay accounts, but that's not one of them  O:)

I guess Brad's right but generally you know straight away if you've got a lemon on your hands. eBay is a breeding place for these morons.

Yes maybe but then Blister's ebay name has probably misled a buyer or two

I assumed the 22 reffered to the number of times he'd bought machinery then sold it again within six months ;)

At the end of the day you can't force someone to pay for something on eBay. You just have to wait while eBay takes 2months to refund your listing fee and go through the whole auction again

cut your losses and re-list. I've had this so many times, it's not worh the hassle, just re-list and take the small hit of the listing fee. Just cancel the bids from 0 or 1 feedback people as you go, that should deter most of them.

So how are they supposed to move off 0 or 1?
I understand you're being cautious, but you're assuming every new ebayer is a rogue...

Pete, who's taken 5 years to get to 22 on Ebay... :)

Exactly. I don't trust anyone with 0 or 1, or in fact barely anyone under 10, that might be a shame to the honest people, but I'm not selling stuff on ebay to be kind to newbies. I'm doing it to raise money, and if that means ensuring I don't get screwed over, or my time wasted, then so be it.

Besides, it's very easy to get a few feedbacks on ebay, all you need to do is buy a few small low cost items, pay quickly, and be a good ebayer, or do the reverse, and sell a few items.

It's a recommendation system, and the more you use it, the more feedback you get, so it only stands to reason to be cautious of the new people.

I've lost count the amount of times, I've wasted time and money on listing fee's to firs-time bidders who don't realise the consequences of them bidding, and then changing their mind.

Well

I have now sent 3 requests for contact and a phone number to ring him on

And so far

NO number

He was going to pay by paypal and did not !

then he was going to collect and pay cash today , and changed his mind

Now he is collecting at the weekend , ( what day is best for you ? )

I told him both and again asked for a phone number to ring him on and as yet no number or day confirmed

I hope I am wrong

A fair point.
I've ended up buying one or two things on Ebay even though I've realised they weren't exactly what I wanted just because I'd agreed to.

I guess I'd be as cautious as you if I was selling things (which I really need to soon before SWMBO gets too annoyed... ;))
I've noticed a lot of people tend to want to vet buyers with a feedback <5 or <10.

It may sound harsh on my part, but as a seller, it really does get grating.

One of the worst ones I had was a chap who bought a brand new fax machine from me (on ebay), I agreed for him to collect from my home, even though I said on the description that I would only send, I arranged a day of work, changed a whole bunch of commitments for that day just to be in when he arrived, only for him not to turn up, and not even tell me.

When I eventually got his number and called him, his response was; "your prices were too much, I found it cheaper on the highstreet at a discount" - even though he had already used the 'buy-it-now' option. I lost a fair bit on the listing/final price fee's for that, and because of ebays crappy resolution, I never did get my cash back..

SO long story short - buyer (and some sellers) can be complete arses, and therefore I don't blame anyone who wishes to vet potential people.

Edit: I now don't sell on ebay, but instead have been using the Amazon Marketplace - it's a much better system IMO

you can basically sum all of this up with the fact that ebay is based on trust, it may pretend to offer some protection in the form of paypal or whatever, but basically its trust.

A little while ago there was a scam where the buyer would post back a blank envelope, get a receipt and claim his money back from paypal as "not as advertised". The buyer would get his money back even before the seller rx'd the blank envelope resulting in the buyer keeping the item and his money....... nice

I`m very untrusting and don't use ebay, Mrs KU does and we allow for everything we buy or sell to get written off.... just in case

having said all of this I know people who have either sold things and made a killing or bourght stuff dirt cheap from people who don't realise what they have, good luck to them is my reply......
