I'm hoping to buy a new ROS this week, probably the Metabo sxe 450, and I'm looking for advice regarding a suitable dust extractor. I currently have a Numatic George vacuum cleaning and can purchase a power tool adaptor for about £9 or alternatively I'm looking at the Metabo ASR205 dust extractor at around £225.

Can anyone advise me on how efficient the George vacuum with adapter will be or from a health point of view should I shell out and get the Metabo extractor. Others I've looked at include the Bosch, Trend and Axminster extractors.

Any advice will be most welcome.

I should state that I will be using the ROS on a daily basis so preserving my lungs is a higher priority than price.

Hi Sandman

Welcome to the forum. Good to have you onboard.

I have the Metabo and it is excellent. I use it with the Trend extractor and it fits a treat.

Cheers

i checked out a number of low end price wise vacuum/extractor
type machines, and was stunned to find that although
the metabo is relatively expensive, it is only rated at something
like 1500 watts for use as an extractor attached to a machine, so
that when you turn on the tool the vacuum works too.

whereas the trend extractor is rated to take machines up to about 2000
watts. i have used it for plaster, as well as mdf sanding, cutting
and drilling, and find it a decent machine that comes with a fair
amount of accessories standard. worth buying the one with the
fine filter though, think it is called the af model.

If your budget stretches buy a festool system like the CT33, i have been using this past 3 years and its perfect. I do a lot of resurfacing of timber \bench tops and use it attatch to my Makita ROS.
I getmany referals from people whom are requesting my work due to the fact that i leave houses as when i walked in clean and dust free.

I got fed up continually having to clean out the clogged filter on my drum vacuum that I've ordered the MiniCyclone CV06...to go with the vacuum. Check out the video..I think you'll be impressed.

Guy yes I have read them - I built the dust bucket and still use it with my vacuum - had it for 1.5 years now - works well.
Roger I am just completing a 6" mini cyclone at present - just waiting for the cone to be completed - finished the dust inlet and air ramp in the upper body.
Made a mess of the cone in PVC now using metal.
Work in progress

As Engineer One says I am to cheap skate to buy one from the USA. Cost to date - just my time
Barry

come on barry i never said you were a cheap skate

just that you seem to think that paying someone else to prove
a theory you don't quite believe in is something you find difficult
to connect with your brain, your arm, and your wallet

i am still trying to find anyone who can convince me that the
diameter length ratio propounded by pentz is accurate,
but then like you i am an old cynic, and figure if someone is
pushing something so hard that they won't take criticism, there
is a large amount of speculation, and only a little amount
of actual engineering experience.

honest barry your not a cheap skate, your a south african, and
to many of us who have had experience with the country
that says it all

paul

Thanks guys for all the advice.

I've just ordered the Metabo ROS and will probably go with the Trend extractor.

Once again, many thanks

I use the Axminster WV100 for power tool extraction (fitted with the 3m hose and their stepped adaptor) which is very effective - Rob
