Hi, I need some inspiration!

I want a door bell on my oak front door but am not keen on the plastic push buttons. It needs to be wireless for us to stand a chance of hearing it. You can get nice buttons but they appear to be for wired bells, again a door knocker isn’t loud enough.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

P.S. it has been suggested that a butler may be the answer but we don’t pay enough :)

It is usually possible to wire a conventional push button to a wireless bell, using a short length of bellwire.

Using this technique,, I mounted a nice brass push I found in a hardware shop in Verona, a bit like this

in a box by the front door. The brass push fires the plastic wireless push, which activates the bell inside. The bell itself came from B&Q,

The result was this:

It's much darker now as it has aged, but it still looks good.

In an effort to deter cold callers, my brother just left the two wires hanging in the breeze. You had to grab the wires and touch them together to make the bell work.
Incredibly successful deterrent.

May I suggest a Black Labrador?
Actually cheaper than some doorbells in the shops, and louder in some cases. Also totally wireless with no limit on signal range, thanks to 'rear mounted perpetual motion antenna' and does not need particular placement in the house, as it will follow you around and even supplement audio alert with physical feedback when triggered.

Does have some maintenance costs, mostly payable in steak, but comes with numerous additional features. May even deter cold callers, as well as mice and cats.

Thank you folks - I would love a labradoorbell :)
If you don't mind a bit of exercise, get the smaller working variant like we have - They're Collie sized and just a few pounds heavier, but still light enough to pick up for cuddles and don't look as pushing-overweight as regular labs can.

Either way, they're Labradorable!!

Recommend a Kelpie-Collie cross - even if you had Usain Bolt as an intruder, the Kelpie could out-accelerate him and would still be running when he had collapsed.

Not sure how the technology has advanced, but I had a wireless doorbell a few years ago. Neighbour's car keys used to set it off.

I love this one...
