Oak or Pine?
It’s in the UK

How can you tell? I think the large cracks a typical of oak but I have no experience.

It looks like firewood to me ;)

Being serious - with that much muck on the surface I'd need a closer photo (preferably showing the grain clearly) to be able to guess.

I wondered if the construction would give anything away. The bench top doesn’t seem to have been crafted with the same care as the base. The pegged mortise and tenon joints seem to be holding up well.

Legs and stretcher looks like oak, top less so...

Top dosen't match the legs either, looks like 2x1 holding it onto the legs, needs to be more substantial and wider imho
