Anyone ever made a homemade duplicator? Did a search but nothing comes up.

Was recently watching this video, and it made me want something similar. I have seen the versions online with a bolt on bed, a template and a flat base with handle and cutter that you freehand along the template, but i feel like having something run along a chain (or gears maybe?) must make for an even cut along the length rather than the imperfection of running a cutter along unevenly by hand...

I'd mainly want it for making consistent lengths of dowel and tapers, and i reckon it really wouldn't so hard to engineer something that does the same job...

"simples" seems quite good and def not hard to make.....
the carriage could be made from wood.....
actually apart from the cutting tool, handles and the nec chain n sprocket, it could be all made from wood n decent ply.....
looked on Amazon and could not find a price...

also rather liked those shaped chair legs with the mouylded joint....
will look later.....

question....
is instagramme any good for vids....++===/='/

This is a bit heath Robinson build, but cheap and simple

Wow yeah, admirable ingenuity in that.

well made ones seem pretty pricey, that viel one looks the cats pyjamas

Actually though by a stroke of luck I have found a copy lathe for sale locally which I might buy and have the duplicator off of, see if I can adapt it to fit mine, and sell on the lathe without it.
