Hi was wondering if anybody has bought a dewalt kit from ebay listings in the us

Can;t help with the question but welcome to the forum.

Never bought any myself, but have heard of people buying power tools from the US. You probably won't have any warranty with the machine (unless you send the machine back to the US at our own expense) as most UK power tools manufacturers won't honour the warranty on foreign machines, also the UK versions sometimes have slightly different components.

They can tell if the machine is one of there's by the serial number. And also they won't be CE marked, so illegal to use in the UK.

Way off topic sorry, but Waka I keep meaning to ask, where in Nigeria?

HI Plankhead,

Some people would say that importing from the U.S. is a bad idea with all the talk of different voltages and warrenties etc. however, my experience of importing has been exellent. I have routers, drills, circular saw, sanders and air compressor with nailers, all of which are run on a standard 110v transformer. I have never had a powertool pack up yet and when comparing like for like with U.K. prices, saved a fortune. I must say though, I don't have any cordless from the States yet but will eventually get some. I'm sure that some people have had bad experiences with shipping and so on but for me it has all been worth while.

cheers,
jonathan.

I have bought about 8 of the 18 volt tools from E bay seller with no problems at all All that is missing is that they do not have the CE marking on the tool. On average I have been paying lesws than half the UK price but you have to wait and know your prices - some times it has taken 2 week to get one at the right price
I am working on an Apple while on holiday and cannot find the delete key and the ADSL connection is very slow

Got the dewalt dw6 kit, 18volt hammer action drill, resip saw, circular saw jigsaw torch and 90 degree screwdriver 2 batteries and 15 min charger the dogs nuts, top bit of kit for £500 here in the uk. If you are after a kit such as this you have to add postage which will be at least $100 from the US and you will probably have to pay duty on this. I looked into buying a jessem router table from the us which was half the uk price. The shiping duty made it about £75 cheaper, however if anything went wrong you would have to post it back as I doubt the uk dealer would cover the warranty.

I've bought several tools from "a" seller on ebay and have not had any real problems. My Cordless trim saw does'nt have a riving knife as the UK model will - but I use it for plunge cutting. Anyway - after a while it stopped working and I stripped it down to see what was wrong - The Dewalt warranty is void in the UK for US tools. The switch had burnt out and got the usual BS from my parts supplier that it would'nt fit and the serial numbers were different - yeah right - cost about a score and fitted in 20 minutes. Might be a problem if your a little less hands on. But you can always find someone who can.
