dewalt 720 ras

i have been lucky in buying one of these second hand and it is in perfect nick at the moment it is sitting in the dining room waiting for my new workshop being built ( i have been given a 16ft by 8ft concrete sectional garage for nothing how good is that). I have the stand in my shed and looking at it i think the saw will be rather low and i wonder if anyone with a 720 has it bench mounted or stand mounted. I realise that it will need to be mounted on a strong bench if i go that way, i just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this

I suppose it would be possible but recalling my time with a similar machine cutting dadoes with this saw obviously requires a lot of back and forward movements(unless you use a dado head) and if the saw was placed too high arm ache would result, I could be wrong, but then unless you are above average height I suspect the makers researched their market before producing the stand, their are members here above average height and suspect he , whoops sorry, they will be along soon to advise.

Not only are they a tad low (unless you are unfashionably short-shanked :wink: ), but I reckon radial arm saws work best when mounted in a long workbench, if possible, Kenny.

The long bench can double as an assembly bench., workbench and somewhere to park yer mug o'tea as well

As to bench height the industrial saws are certainly higher off the floor than the lighter models

Sadly I did on just such a saw, but IIRC the saw arm was angled slightly upwards which meant it was very heavy to drag the head forwards, which helped to minimise snatch with pre negative rake blades, but did mean it was very easy to return the saw to rest.
