Hi all, i am a new member so forgive me if this has already been asked...

I wanted to buy the DEFT T30 but it has disappeared! I assuming the the company selling them, lyndhurst, or DEFT themselves (or both) have gone bust. Does anyone know this to be true?

Also does anyone know if there is somewhere else to buy these saws from? I ve done a bit of research and found you can get the same saw under a different brand in the states (leguna and grizzly) but am unsure as to wheather it is worth looking into importing one or not, plus if there would be issues with power supply differences?

Your help would be appreciated, thanks

hi luke pm please iam trying to sort a shipment from the manufacturer for the DEFT brand whis is a laguna

all the best richard

Thanks for that, it took a good hour, but i am now all read up and up to speed, definite food for thought

You might want to consider the Xcaliber saws from Woodford

http://www.woodfordwm.co.uk/ They seem a reasonable firm to deal with.

I and several other forum users have the 806/807 which can be found under Semi professional new machines.

It is a very solid reliable clone of the US unisaw and is one of the few new machines available in the UK that can take a dado head with the optional arbour extension (if you want to use one that is. They are the Marmite of saw blades round here. )

Bob

Except the 806, and 807 in particular, are considerably more expensive than the T30.

Other saws closer to the DEFT in terms of price include the SIP 01332, the Axminster 10" jobbie or the record TS200, although the record is on legs rather than a closed in cabinet. Again, opinions vary and the search facility here will be your friend for info

Steve.

I thought the T30 was over 1k before they disappeared?

the 806 and 807 do look very similar to the old T30 and T50, although at a higher price, worth looking into more i think tho.

Are people that have them happy? plus do you use a sled on them for cross cut?

I also may have done a stupid thing and started looking at saws above the original budget, which of course i instantly want (machinery ****!). The baby hammer in fact, which comes in at a cool £2500. double the original budget

so the new plan may be to keep saving for another 6 months or so, unless anything good comes onto e-bay in the mean time at the original budget.

The 806/807 is a much revered machine around these parts. I've never heard a negative word against them. The design is perhaps a little dated compared to the DEFT but it's basically a clone of the Delta saw that Norm had on the NYW. You would indeed need to use a crosscut sled instead of the sliding table. It depends on what work you'll be doing, whether that will be acceptable to you. Unless you're doing heavy work with board stock, then I don't think a sliding table is necessary (IMO).

I've not read anyone complaining about the Xcaliber saws. Look at the tools reviews part of the forum for a write up when Philly got his.

I use the mitre gauge with an extended fence fitted for most cross cutting and a Norm Abrams style panel cutter for panels. I have no room for or desire to have a sliding table.

I keep a stock of blank zero clearance inserts to make a safer way of using the dado head.

I've made a sacrificial fence that fits over the rip fence for rebating.

You can just see the home made outfeed table in the photo. This extends to just over 4' past the blade so that even an 8' sheet stays balanced on a rip cut. I have arrange my bench heights so that they act as support on the infeed side so ripping 8x4 sheets is doable single handedly.

100% satisfied with it.

Bob was it you who cut the fence rails? Any regrets? I'd probably have to do that.

Guilty as charged Tom!

Steve Maskery was not quite brave enough but made some shorter ones and kept the originals for a rainy day.
Easy to do as they are only square box and angle steel drilled to fit the saw.

Ooh, that photo makes me wince!

Yes, I made a couple of short rails
out of 2" sq box section and then powder coated. Obviously it limits my capacity, but I does mean that I can actually use the saw in my workshop. And if I do ever get a workshop again (like Arnie, I'll be back) I'll make sure it is one which is wide enough for me to use the saw properly.

The end is nigh. :(

Steve

Do you want me to store your table saw Steve?

Jut had an e-mail from Axminster to say that until next Friday, 27th Nov there is 10% off the Jet JTS-600 saw bench, now £789-99 rather than the usual £880-80. Might meet your requirements?

Well I've got to do something with it.

But Tom, your track record isn't exactly one which gets you short-listed for Curator of the Year! :)

Whatever do you mean?? :D Actually Steve, if you did want to keep it here (in use), then I'd be more than willing. Completely guaranteed, of course. ;)
