To the best of my knowledge Danish is not child safe, very few things actually fill the criteria.
It's going back more than 10 years to when I worked in a paint store (Dixons & DDC) but at the time the only 2 readily available child safe finishes were, pure tung oil and osmo poly-X oil.
How old is he now? That probably answers your question
Anyway, there are loads of finishes available that conform to the relevant test, EN71 part 3 which covers coatings for toys and nursery furniture. It's been covered many times before and as has been stated elsewhere (so I think I can repeat it) a list of our products which are safe is on the faq page of our website.
I can't speak for the product you mention as you haven't said which manufacturer, but chances are that is does. You'll have to check though (unless it's already marked on the tin).
I don't know if these tins state 'food safe' on them (and if they do check that they mean 'safe for food contact' and not merely 'food resistant') but the EN71 test is only for toy safety, it does not mean that the product is also safe for food use.
Hi terry
they say en71 part 3 food and toy safe.
but just recently I rang briwax technical department to ask if a bowl polished in their clear wax was ok for nibble etc and his said it was but I wanted it for liquids I could use their danish oil which is the rustins brand and is fully food safe
hi steve
all i have done is apply with a cloth then leave for a while, then wipe off any excess not soaked in and leave to dry.Denib with wire wool, micro mesh depending on wood,i.e. no wire wool on oak then apply several more coats the same way until the required finish achieved.
