Can anyone tell me what a Cyclone is please? It was referred to in my review of a dust extractor but the author has not expanded on his comment.

Thanks

Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and then type cyclone into the search.

There are sixty seven threads which will explain all.

Cheers

but the simplest explaination is to go to curry's or comet, and look at a Dyson vacuum cleaner..

alledgedly the cyclone makes separation of the various parts of the waste, and helps move it more quickly

I dont think so - the dyson is setup to collect dust not to seperate fine dust from the wood chip produced and make sure that most of the fine dust does not end up in the filter. The Dyson is optimised for house cleaning not the workshop. I have built both single and dual cyclones and discovered alot. Bill's site is one of the best for woodworking not the high street

but the question was what;'s a cyclone
and the dyson is definitely one of those.
as for optimisation for the workshop, i agree it's is not right, but for the learning process its a quick way to start learning the principle.
