Hi All

This is one of my latest commissions. Made from ripple sycamore with a slip matched lid. Mother of pearl inlays on the lid and escutcheon with a fine black border.
The lid is bordered in black acetal with polyester inlay.

The interior consists of 3 trays made from macassar ebony with polyester inlays. Lined in ecru pig suede and fitted with high qualtity nickel hardware, danish oil finish followed with wax.

Absolutely stunning Ian. I just love it. Well done!

Hi Guys

Many thanks!

I can supply these hinges but they are quite expensive coming in at £48 a pair. You get pair of hinges 2 sets of machines screws and the correct drill size + delivery to the UK. They are alot easier than quadrants to fit.

I also have cheaper ones which are not as high quality but the do the job.

lovely stuff!!

What router table setup do you use for cuting that lock mitre? Any shots?

Boxes are what got me into woodwork. Shame I havent made many of them yet!

Absolutely lovely - fantastic design and apparently flawless execution. I've filed away at least half a dozen ideas to steal!

I like it. Are the sides solid sycamore or veneered mdf? I would have been nervous cutting out for the inlay in the middle of that top!

The carcass was solid sycamore and the lid and base veneered.

I find placing masking tape over the inlay area a great help especially on darkwoods. Once the outline has been lightly marked remove the the masking tape where the inlay has to go this way you can clearly see the cut lines.

cheers

Ian
