Hi again everyone

Just a quickie about overlapped pieces. I desperately want to do a Celtic Knot design but aren't sure how to create the overlapped areas.

I know there's no such thing as a daft question, so hopefully this isn't the first (homer)

I've not tried that but thinking of intarsia would sanding the edge of one piece lower than the adjoining piece to create the illusion of running under the other work?

Hey. I'm not sure what you mean by overlapped work. If you're talking about overlapped intarsia, I don't know as I'm nowhere near that level yet - I've only been scrolling for a couple of weeks.

In terms of just making a scroll saw celtic knot, that is one thing that I've just tried. Here's a photo of my effort. Basically cut out the main shape and the holes with the saw, and then used a handheld sander and various engraving / carving attachments to add the detail and the overlapped areas, as you put it.

It's a bit rough, and it could do with some more fine tuning, but I'm relatively happy with this in its pre-stained state. Took an age though, so next time I may look for a simpler knot with fewer holes and fewer tangles!
