A pic of a couple of small things. First is a new awl with a handle in yew in the style of Derek of Oz, pin is a hardened masonry nail.....very effective:

The second item is a little handle in ebony which I had left over from the material for the Teak Casket. When Rod (Harbo) came round last week he brought a nice one from Ray Isles and this is a smaller version of it. Going to go into PFT on the 'morrow to see if I can have a rummage around to find something to make a small fish-tailed chisel (for cleaning out lapped dovetail sockets) with that will fit the handle, a tatty old 10mm bevel edged chisel ought to do the trick - Rob

Top effort woodbloke!
There is no more attractive handle for a chisel than a London Pattern.
Ebony can become brittle with age, so striking this one might not be a good idea.
You'll have to show off your chisels when your done.
Regards
MC :D :D :D

Well, they may be small but they're quite beautiful - although there's more than a hint of a 19th century surgical instrument about that awl!
Dr Woodbloke's Patent Boil Lance, perhaps?!

Regards.

Nice handles Rob - still cannot understand how Ray can turn these out in boxwood for £4.95 and make a profit?

Rod :)

Rod :)

"some" automation may be involved.

After a fairly productive visit to PFT this morning I purchased for the grand sum of 50p (go on Alf, tell me I wos robbed  :D ) this bit of steel from some unknown plane, I think:

After about an hour of grinding, re-hardening and tempering and then polishing again, I've ended up with this:

........a new little fish-tailed chisel which ought to be much better for cleaning out the corners of dovetail sockets. I have a pair of skewed chisels but the angle on them is too great to clean out the sockets so this little beastie should work much better. Need to fit in onto the Tool Wall now :D - Rob

Well if you want to simply throw your money away, Rob...

Very smart. Course by not just regrinding the pair of skews you've not only been robbed twice, but unwittingly confessed to being a collector as well. #-o S'okay, I'm sure someone will volunteer to rehome it before anyone realises the full horror.

Cheers, Alf

Alf - the skews are useful as separate chisels tho' .....wafers on the inside of the Teak Casket plinth were cleaned up with them, no other way really that I could have done them i 'spose. Can't classify meself as one of they collector folk yet as the total number of planes in the 'shop is still less than 20.....is that the threshold?....cross over it and you're doomed to an existence regulated by the depth of the wallet and the greasiness of the 'Slope' :D - Rob

Blade from a small skew rebate I imagine.
