My wife wanted a corner cupboard in which to hide some of the Grandchildren’s toys which at present were in a corner of the hall.
Looking on ebay Henry Venables of Stafford was selling pallets of off cuts of 28mm American red oak delivered for £220 inc vat. Sizes 12 to 36 inches long and 3 to 10 inches wide
I made a bid, got it and am well pleased with it.
I have no W.I.P pictures before this as the camera was in America with my daughter
As the back will not be seen, and to make use of the shorter lengths of timber I decided to end join some of them using a finger jointer in the router table.
The tops and shelves were made by biscuit jointing lengths together, rough cut out with a jig saw and finished using the router.
The bottom shelf was rebated into the sides and the top held in place with buttons.
The stiles, rails and panels for the doors were made on the router table.
At this stage I decided to make a top display unit.
I made the sides out of panels which again allowed me to use short lengths which were resawn on the band saw and let into rebates in the frame. A bead detail was put on the edges of the boards and a loose tongue fitted between each board.
The top is rebated on to the sides and the edges finished with an oggee cutter
The shelves are adjustable
Ready now to be stained dark oak and finished with Danish oil
Here are a few other things I made with short lengths
Next project is a small chest of drawers for the spare bedroom
Alan.
