I recently bought a cordless laser mouse (Microsoft's Wireless Laser Mouse 6000) because I liked the feel of it. I'd previously used their infra-red corded jobbie, which had no problems at all with my desktop (a textured pattern vinyl).
However, this new version didn't like the desktop at all - the cursor would stop as I stopped, then shimmy or jump about 5mm - a right nuisance when trying to draw something, as you can imagine.
Anyway, I had an idea, so I drew an A4 page-worth of lines in both directions, 1mm apart. Didn't take forever, in spite of how it sounds and it has totally solved the problem.
So, if you've got a similar mouse, with a similar problem, unless you can be bothered to draw all the lines as I did, drop me a PM and I'll e-mail the grid to you - no point in more than one of us spending time mindlessly drawing straight lines!
