I have an old pc that I plan to give to a friend of mine.

My colleague gave me a windows OEM disc to use to re format the hard disc before letting the computer go. I have just started this process and the product key on my old pc is "not valid"

I suspect it maybe because the cd is for windows xp, and the old computer used windows home?

Is the cd universal or does it have its own special product key?

Thanks for any advice, before I give in and go back to reading my Axminster catalogue.

Cheers, Tony.
