Hi I am a total woodworking newbie and got a Scheppach scroll saw for Xmas - ashamed to say it's still in its box as I haven't a clue how to even start. I've bought some books however the main question is what blades should I buy (make/type). All help appreciated 😊

Hi and welcome to the forums, type 'scroll saw blades' into the search function at the top of the page - search titles only, that will get you started (y)

Have a local search for woodclubs near you, I belong to one and also a newbie, but find the members collectively have eenormous amount of skills, and akways willing to help and advise, also if budget allows a session with a woodworkig teacher is also money well spent.
Also ask on local fb pages, may find folk in your area who canhelp. Good luck 😀

Brilliant idea - will definitely do that - thanks

There is a sticky on blade selection in the scroll saw area.

What you choose depends very much on what you plan to do, for general starter use I'd suggest a widely spaced selection e.g. grades 0, 3, 6 and 9, probably in skip tooth form until you learn your own preferences. Blades are relatively low cost and disposable, I wouldn't worry about getting the wrong type if you want to experiment since they are no trouble to store and keep in hand for when an odd job comes up.

I would suggest decent quality blades though, I'm not really brand loyal but be wary of cheap no name stuff on eBay or Amazon, they are frequently not very smooth in use. A block of bes wax is handy for applying as lubricant to the blade as well.
