Just a quicky

How do you make the wooden inserts for the Compact Mirrors kits as sold by Turner's Retreat et-al. I take it you need a chuck?

Cheers

HI, no you dont need a chuck to do these or the small boxes.

If you have a screw chuck they are easy, mount the wood on the screw chuck then turn and finish the top. part off and stick to the mirror.

I prefer the wood to come to the edge of the mirror not just fit inside the rim.

You can also do boxes the same way

To get them to fit like this takes a bit of measuring you need to cut a lip in the undersdie to fit inside the rim and then part it off.

Which ever way you do it use a bit of sandpaper and rough up the surface of the mirror/box before applying the glue, it sticks better that way.

I was making an order with Turners Retreat and was going to chuck one in. But they don't do Silver/Chrome. Rutlands do Pewter but they want £6 for delivery. Cheeky Cheeky.

HI Tom, Rutlands is the only place I have seen them in anything but gold, Axminster do them in gold not sure of postage from there though.

Thanks Paul, the boxes sell well but the mirrors dont, I origanlly made 4 of them 2 years ago but still have one left.
