Pulling out some of the wood from the unknown woodpile I decided to turn this hollow for with the intention of giving it a total coloured look but on turning it I went for a transparent coloured look and found some very interesting grain in it.

4 1/2" X 4" coloured with intrinsic water-based stains and finished with acrylic gloss varnish The top is ebonised.

How do you apply the stain, Derek. Is it by brush, or cloth/paper?

I have a project to try this evening with some chestnut stains but I have not used them before. I have only got the sample pots, so dont have too much to soak into a cloth if that makes sense.

These are water-based stains which I applied by airbrush it is a double-action type which means I can control the amount of paint that comes out.

I started colouring with that set and replaced them with the full-sized bottles as I tend to use them a bit.

ah ok. yes, that was my idea too depending on how I get on.

I like that Derek especially the top. Or should I say envious because mine are no match.
