Well this had been in the diary since last year but as it approached I didn't fancy it, what with all the health issues. But this morning the sun was shining and I happened to see the brochure as I was tucking into my brekky and decided to hop on the train and go have a look.

Collect is an art exhibition of items which are priced between 'Affordable' and 'Eye wateringly expensive'. It's held in the Saachi Gallery on the King's Road, nr Sloane Square.

I'm afraid, although pictures were allowed, I felt rushed by beady eyed artists panicking that I was stealing their intellectual property   So most of the pics are poor. There is also something wrong with the auto focus on my kit lens, so a lot are out of focus :(

But for your delectation, here are a selection of turnings and a few ceramics which took my eye:

The pieces in these first two pics are all turned oval, both inside and out. Massur Birch I think.

These were amazing. It appears that they were turned, hollowed, but the pith was left in and carved around. The mind boggles...

Hope you're still awake. ;) I do enjoy things like this. But the pretentiousness of some of the people involved can be frustrating. As soon as they learn that you are not buying, they are either not interested or see you as some sort of threat. Not one person I spoke to was interested in talking about their work. I find that so odd.

Collect is on again next year. If you're able to come and have a look, I'd encourage it. Very inspiring place.

I love these shows but don't get to see many. I was at the one a couple of years ago at the Worshipful turners thingummyjig in London and found the turners there happy to talk about there work. You do end up wondering how some of them do what they do. Thanks Tom,

Pete

Thanks guys. I had some website problems last night. Should be sorted last night, so the pics are back. Enjoy!

Hi Tom

Thank you for the pictures. But I just do not know why those ceramicists want to put all that colour on them. I would much rather they left the ceramic plain to show the lovely substrate. :)

They're just being Pretentious Mark. I've heard some of them make them wet and then come back to finish them when they're dry
