It was given to me on the occasion of my birth, by some long deceased relative.So-called "widow head" (version of Viccy's portrait) 1 Crown Coins from Great Britain (Sterling pre-decimal)
How did you come by it?
Surely there's more than a fivers worth of silver in it?yours is 'Fair' to 'Poor' ~ £5 -
There's about 1oz/26g of silver there, so at the current spot price, about 19 quid.Surely there's more than a fivers worth of silver in it?
Very nice thing to have. I guess it's been in (some part of) your family for a while already. It was given to me on the occasion of my birth, by some long deceased relative.
In the loft yesterday I "found" it in a box of old stuff that hadn't seen the light of day for a long time.Very nice thing to have. I guess it's been in (some part of) your family for a while already.
If you do, you'll wipe out any value - just put it in a plastic bag....I may clean it...
What percentage of the £5 value do you think I would wipe out. lolIf you do, you'll wipe out any value - just put it in a plastic bag.
My point was poorly made but essentially the coin has an intrinsic value purely from the amount of silver it contains but also has a value to a numismatist - though serious ones only want 'BU' or better specimens - by cleaning it you are likely to remove any premium a collector might pay. What percentage of the £5 value do you think I would wipe out. lol
