Prepared some more timber strips up for my latest box project but decided the appearance was not appropriate.

.
So I cut them in half and now have in my opinion some very attractive coasters.

Got some old cork flooring tiles from my model railway days and going to apply to the base of the coasters, when I have advice on how to apply the finish.

So what I am implying with this thread is its a good idea to even save those 3" offcuts.

got out a selection of timbers to prepare for some more coasters plus table mats. But my offcut box still looks full.

Very time consuming, Made one tablemat today, Three hours this morning preparing strips (although I might have enough to make another tomorrow not needing preparation)

Strips cut to size and laid out to pattern as coasters already made.

First 10 pieces glued.

Another 10 bits lined up ready to be glue to first portion.

All 20 strips glued up and will clean up thickness to 12mm tomorrow when glue matured. Coaster made earlier in week on show as well.

Nearly had a disaster yesterday on the first table mat.

Put it in the thicknesser, first pass through, nice. second pass through same face it snatched and had to release the depth setting handle to get it to pass through. Nasty snipe had been created. Held my breath and passed it through again and got away with it.

Second mat glued up more quickly because timber was mainly sized already from earlier machining
Sooooooooo......

Giving the coasters a rest for now because I dont want to start cutting into fresh timber.

Post again when second mat machined and finishes applied.
