Hi all.

Finally managed a day off at home \:D/ . Though as it`s our wedding anniversary you would have never heard from me again if i hadn`t  .

After a bit of gardening, the weather took a turn for the worse so i escaped to the shop, don`t you love the British climate    .

Not having a lot of time i came up with 2 simple items intended for the LOML ( she says she like simple things???? :? )

The first is a little Rippled Ash box to keep her wedding & Engagement rings in.

The second is a simple clock made from Walnut, i saw something similar a while ago, it is excellent craft fair fodder (or last minute gift  ) very quick & easy to make.

Luckily she likes both, :p :p

Doug

Both very good pieces, as you say the simple things are always the best. So brownie points all round 1 for day off and another for the turnings. Keep it up I do like the clock better out of the 2

you old romantic you, hope you have a great anniversary. The funny thing is, its mine also today, 9 years (so she reminds me) anyone got a tin hat i can borrow.

the gifts are lovely doug, when you are back in your stride again with time to spare, you'll have to come over and give us a demo mate.
catch you later.

Thats an unsual box Doug, looks the same shape as a jar of peanut butter!

I like the clock :D How big is the face and where did you get it?

JT

Thanks Derek,

Hopefully work will calm down & i`ll get more time in the shop.

Steve,

What a coincidence, 19 years for us
Got a couple more weeks away, i hope to be home for the 12th when Mark Hancock is demo`ing.

Cheers Johnny.

The clock face was from "Meantime", i bought a few at a show, it`s about 1 1/2".
We saw something similar at a craft fair, Mrs B like it, so i`ve had it in mind for a while, such a simple idea & quick to make.
We also saw a design for a vodum candle holder, again simple, but quite effective. Hope to make one soon & will post the results.

Really like the Ash Box/Jar Doug, looks like you managed the thickness and inner bore blend into the neck well, first reaction was "that's a Canopic Jar".

I await to see how the carving developes for the next ones..

Hi Doug,

Great work as usual!!! The little jar/box is nice, maybe a slightly smaller base would make it more.... what's the word???... Graceful??? Still good though either way!!

Really like the clock. The colours of the face and wood work really well together. Good job!!!

Richard

Thanks Chas,

I`d not heard of a canopic jar, if i`m honest i saw this design in the woodturner a couple of months ago.
As for carving, that would involve artistic talent far beyond me. :?

Cheers Richard.

The box i took the design from was slimmer at the base if i`m honest, but it looked better when horizontal on the lathe. It was too late once i`d hollowed it & parted it off.
Serves me right for not wearing my glasses

Both look good to me but the clock stabds out. Can't help thinking that maybe your next step is to do a similar one with a pendulum. Be an interesting excercise

Pete

Cheers Pete,

I`ll give that one a bit of thought :?

As mentioned previously this is my attempt at a vodum/tea light holder Mrs B saw on a craft stall. Again simple & easy to make.
Also another angle of the clock.
