Hello everybody I have a Clifton #7 plane that I like a lot but I was not happy with the tote and knob that came with the plane, I replaced the tote with one that more closely matched the old Stanley totes and got a knob that is taller than the one that came with the plane. The problem is that the threaded rod that holds the front knob on is too short for the new knob. I was wondering if anybody here knows what thread size that rod is. I am hoping it is not a old Witworth size or British fine thread size as that is just about impossible to find on this side of the world. Anyway if any of you know what size tread that is I would be grateful.

thanks

Troy

I have sent an e-mail to Clico and their automated reply said they would contact me. If I find out I will post the size on the forum

thanks

Have you tried a Stanley rod? it could be 12/20 like the Stanley/Record ones.

Pete

The diameter of the rod (on mine) is 6.15mm (¼-in. nominal). 26 tpi.
That makes it ¼" BSF (British Standard Fine) - assuming the thread pitch is 55°

If BSW is hard to find over there, then BSF will probably be harder. You could order a BSF die from olde Blighty, but it might be easier to contact a Clifton retailer for a spare tote bolt and cut it to length (as - on mine at least - they're threaded full length).

HTH.

Cheers, Vann.

Thanks everybody, Clico just sent me an e-mail confirming that the stud holding the front knob on is 1/4 inch British fine thread. The also said they would send me a new one.

take care
