Cites lists

Looking for something else, I read that Chile pine - monkeypuzzle - Aurucaria aurucana is Cites one listed - in danger of extinction. You wouldn't think so looking around Cornwall, they're quite common. Some of the really large ones were grown from seeds brought home by returning miners, apparently.

I don't know Phil, but I wonder if CITES listings are based on country of origin and the occurrence of that species therein?
If that logic holds, trees in other countries (Cornwall) could be viewed as "Specimen trees" - especially if the 'new' country climate interferes with or manipulates the normal growth/reproduction of the species.

If you look at the the lists of Countries where the trees are grown (albeit probably in substantial or commercial quantities) they undoubtedly aren't the Countries of the species' origins.
