Hello all :D

Fingers crossed, I might be getting a Hitach C7u2 circular saw (winning on ebay at the moment). If I don't win the auction, I'll be buying one anyway.

I have a couple of questions regarding circular saws in general:

Can anyone recommend some good blades (190mm)? I'd prefer to get 2 - 1 for ripping & crosscutting rough sawn timber (6"x 2",etc) and a finer finish blade for ripping and crosscutitng sheet material, etc.

Thanks

Big area saw blades, most tool shops will try and sell cheap blades expensively they make big profit. Find a tool supplier that deals with a blade specialist and supplies blades to industry. Put an industrial blade in your saw. Ask for a low noise version if noise is a concern. Most industrial blades will have a thicker body and be rolled to take any surface stress out of the blades. A blade with a thicker body is less likely to flex whilst sawing and won't necessarily mean a thicker kerf as the kerf is set by the width of the teeth. Trends professional range are OK but they also do an industrial range but a little expensive IMO

Any good blade supplier will also offer a sharpening and re tipping service

I have tried quite a few over the years and the day I fitted a Festool blade from their plunge saw was a revelation. They leave all others far behind (and I say that as one who does not covet Festool kit one iota)

FREUD Blades.
Travis Perkins stock them and without discount are 20% cheaper than Rutlands.

For the general purpose blade I would go with a thin kerf, as there is less wood to be removed the cut is quicker and also makes less dust, handy if on site. I use a De Walt series 20, 18 tooth one but CMT also do a thin kerf range.

For the better panel finishing blade then something like a CMT fine cross cut with a higher top bevel angle or one of the Freud blades.
