Following advice on this forum(many thanks to all) I'm now the proud owner of a Jet 1220, but would be most grateful for advice on the most suitable chuck..different people are saying different things
Would a Supernova2 be too big for this midi machine...would the nova G3 be better for bearing loading
Similarly as an alternative, the Axminster Super precision versus the SK100
I like the idea of the Record/Nova as one could also utilise Sorby jaws..maybe the Patriot itself. The G3 (not Supernova) does come with several jaws and the needed 1x8tpi thread, whilst for the supernova one needs to spend ~£25 on the insert, before buying all the jaws.
My intended projects are pen turning, bowls up to 12" diameter and smaller items (eggcups, mills etc)
Please may I draw upon the wisdom of the Forum for your advice
best regards
Giles

Im not sure on the size of your machine but I think the supernova chuck is 1" by 8tpi anyway so you shouldn't need an insert, they are however very expensive, even second hand nova chucks.

I also have a multistar duplex, which is lighter and smaller than my supernova but has a 3/4 " by 16tpi. It is more work changing from compression to expansion modes but really only takes 20 seconds to do, it is definately smaller than my nova chuck though.

Hi

For the size of lathe you have and your intended projects I'd go for the Record Power G3 which comes in 1" x 8TPI to suit your spindle size. It's lighter and cheaper than the SN2 :)

It's also worth looking at the Dakota XT650 from Rutlands - again available in 1" x 8 TPI and a lot of chuck for your money.
