The DW 712 arrived last night ... along with another saw that a mate dropped off earlier in the day. He heard that I needed one and was chucking one out.

Now I have two.

The old one is a Defour or something. No slide but does cut on the bevel too. Guess I'll set it up for 90 deg cuts for studwork etc (current work).

First impressions with the DW 712 are that it isn't too noisy and the dust is ok. Certainly no worse than the Makita 1013 that I was borrowing before.

I noticed the initial wobble that happens when the blade starts (mentioned in someone's earlier posts) but this goes after a split second.

Cutting wise it handles 100 x 47 pine fine. Nice cuts (60 series DW 24 T blade I think).

I tested the blade nut before use and tested the squareness too and all seemed spot on. The think I like about this saw is that you can change the settings if the blade is not square (can change the zero reference - i think you can propbably do this on other saws but didn't notice...).

So far so good. May write more after a month or so.
