Hi new to the forum and thought to start by asking if anyone has an opinion on the following lathes as I am looking to upgrade from my current Nutool NWL900 lathe with is now showing signs of failing.

The Lathes Im looking at are

-Wivamac Zebrano - looks good but the price???
-Record - Maxi 1
-Nova Galaxi 1624-44 - not sure about the direct drive robustness expense to replace etc

Also if anyone knows of stores that might stock these other than Turners retreat or Snainton Wood supplies.

Thanks in advance.

How about going the used route there are some good deals about and you may get more for your money. Lathe choice will depend on the capacity, power and type of turning you intend to do.

Lots of choice out there.
How about the Stratos lathes from Hope woodturning :)

I really like the technology of the Nova direct drive motor but there have been the odd report of failures and I don't know how long you'd have to wait for repair / replacement. With more conventional technology of a 3phase motor and a variable speed drive, you will always be able to replace them with generic parts if you still have the lathe in 20 years time.
