Does anyone know of a good timber supplier in or around leicestershire, maybe notts or northants, and one that stocks cherry maybe a decent price too.

He asked for a Good timber merchant, Doug
I'd recommend Whitmore's at Hinkley. I saw the best cherry I've ever seen there. It was like the posh stuff you see in the US mags that they tend to keep for themselves.
Cherry is never cheap, though, wherever you buy it.

I`ve never had a problem with them Steve, i can only speak as i find & they`ve always been helpful to me.
Their prices are usually the cheapest when i`ve phoned round, though i don`t know what they are like for small orders.

I'm making my coffee table in English Cherry at the moment and I have to say that I'm not overly impressed. I'm not sure whether I've got hold of a kiln died lump but the stuff in very inconsistent... it does plane well which is a bit a saving grace. I'd go for a decent bit of the 'Murrican if I were you, though you probably won't get air dried stuff :( - Rob

Hello
If you go onto ebay and look up this seller

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Yorkshire-Oak-Supplies__W0QQ_armrsZ1

He is in cleckheaton and last time (a year ago) I went he had loads of cherry, not sure on the quality as I was buying oak.

The guy is called Chris and is a nice fella, ebay have made it a fiddle to get in touch because they have removed his moblie number from his pages. The ebay prices are not great but he gave me some discount for buying bulk (cash off ebay) when I got there.

Hope this helps
Rich

I've found them to be downright unhelpful on the occasions I've dealt with them. I go elsewhere if I can.

On the whole I find Fitchett and Woolacott pretty good to deal with. I think I spent about £15k with them last year. I deal directly with a sales rep so I always get good service and price. I havent had any cherry from them for quite a while though.

Was over at Chris' place today, he's still got loads of cherry and it's usually English. You will need to store it somewhere dry before use though as most of it is stored in a leaky outbuilding - have some in the garage at the minute. I've got his number if anyone wants it

Depending on the thickness' that you require we've got some English cherry in stock at Whitmore's, alternatively we keep quite a large stock of American cherry.
